Scholarships and Bursaries
Please find information and links to more information for potential funding sources. Please note that the deadlines for some scholarships have not been updated. Keep them on your list, but check back for new information from the donor to ensure you don't miss the application deadlines.
To be eligible to receive this scholarship, students must be a full time student at a college or university by October, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, be a Canadian resident and submit answers to the essay question.
The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is one of Canada's largest labour organizations with over 390,000 members. Entrants must be the children or grandchildren, or the foster children or the foster grandchildren, of members or retirees of the National Union's Component unions or its affiliates and who are planning to enter the 1st year of a Canadian public, post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis in 2020.
In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship must be entering a field of study in health care, criminal justice, community services or policing. The essay topic is — The importance of their field of study in either policing, criminal justice services, or health care in delivering public services to Canadians.
In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Scholarship for Indigenous Students must identify as an Indigenous person. The essay topic — The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of Indigenous peoples.
In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Scholarship for LGBTQ2 Students must identify as an LGBTQ2 student. The essay topic is — The importance of trade unions in supporting the LGBTQ2 communities.
In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Scholarship for Students of Colour must identify as a person of colour. The essay topic is — The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people of colour in Canada.
In addition to the general requirements above, the applicants for the Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship must identify as a person with a disability. The essay topic is — The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities.
There are no other requirements, other than the general requirements above, for applying for the Tommy Douglas Scholarship. The essay topic is — How Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a country with a more just and equitable society.
These awards are inspired by beloved hockey players who have had passed, these awards are given to students who are aspiring to going to post secondary and continue to have a passion for hockey.
Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2024. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters (Fraser Valley, Kootenay-Boundary, Metro, Vancouver Island, Northern, Thompson-Okanagan). Each winner will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.
Every year the BC Sports Hall of Fame awards two Jack Farley Youth Sports Achievement Awards. These scholarships are awarded to one outstanding male and one outstanding female amateur athlete graduating from a BC secondary school. Winners will receive $2,000, which is to be applied to their education at a post-secondary in British Columbia.
Established in 2005, the industry-funded BC Technology Scholarship Program is proud to provide grants to students who have a proven passion for technology, a desire to leave a mark in the tech sector, and are pursuing a post-secondary education in a BC-based technology-related discipline.
If paid education is something to look forward to, be sure to look at the Canadian Armed Forces program; This is great for those looking to serve in the armed forces for a period of time after getting some form of education in the process.
CIBC has put forward $10,000 ($20,000 for CIBC clients) to help a student pay his or her first-year tuition. Unlike many scholarships, this requires no essays or applications, just a simple entry form.

Horatio Alger Association of Canada
This scholarship is for students who are pursuing a degree from a post secondary school College or University and have a strong commitment to do so.
Those who identify as Indigenous persons and are residents of British Columbia are eligible for the Indigenous Early Years Scholarship Program in areas of study that align with early years' professions including early childhood educaction, early intervention therapies and supports and other para-profeesions.
ICBA Annual Student Achievement Awards support outstanding students. The vision of the awards program is to invest in and develop strong leaders who demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, a moral forces of character, instincts to lead, and commitment to intellectual and personal development.
To be eligible to receive this bursary in 2018, students must be an active member of Interior Savings and apply for the bursary by February 28, 2018. If students are not already a member, no problem! They're open to open up a membership before the deadline date; it's easy and our student account is totally free.
IODE Southern Interior Region Visual and Performing Arts Bursary ($1000)
Personal outline to include years of formal instruction in the area of study, scholastic achievements, other accomplishments, goals for field of study, list of certificates and recent publicity in the field of study, financial need and two letters of reference.
Compelled to provide student the opportunity to learn a little about the importance good oral health, while offering an opportunity to earn a scholarship. Eligibility: attending next fall, essay, GPA of 2.5 or higher, resident of Oliver or Osoyoos.
If any student is looking for an easier scholarship to apply for, this scholarship would be suggested if the student is looking to join a post secondary school after high school by the fall of 2017.
Offering the largest award in the country, Loran Scholars foundation supports young leaders with exceeding talents and those still developing their talents to change the world for the better.
Open to applicants who have themselves been severly injured or who have had a parent or sibling killed or severly injured as a result of an impaired driving crash. Injuries must be catastrophic or severe and have had a significant impact on the applicants' lives.
Much like the Odenza Marketing group, this scholarship requires students to meet minimal requirements, but, this reward is given to students who are already attending College or University by the end of the year.

MyBlueprint Bankroll Contest
Students in Grade 11 and 12 can redeem their Activity Points to enter $500 scholarship draws. Ten (10) Finalists will be randomly selected to submit a short essay (up-to 300 words) describing how they would use the award and why it is important to them.
For this Scholarship, students have to meet a minimal amount of requirments. Though this scholarship would be intended for students already studying in post secondary.

Public Guardian and Trustee Educational Assistance Fund
To be eligible an applicant must be a former permanent ward of the Province of BC and planning to study at post-secondary the following year.

Parachute wants to give this award to those who live life to the fullest in memory of Stacey Levitt, this $2,500 award will, quote: "The Levitt family awards each year's selected recipient $2,500 in funding to help them live their life to the fullest."
Storwell is offering an annual bursary of $2,000 in support of foster children to help them attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life. The award is non-renewable, but candidates are welcome to apply for it once a year.
The successful candidate is an active member of their community, has excellent grades and displays financial need.
