SOUTHERN OKANAGAN SECONDARY SCHOOL

  1. Hoops for Hope - Victory comes with rewards! The winning team will earn awesome prizes — snacks and of course, bragging rights as the first-ever Hoops for Hope champions. Will it be your names in the books? 

 

  1. The Jr & Sr Ultimate teams travelled to Merritt yesterday to compete in the Okanagan Valley Championship. The Sr. Squad got off to a strong start in their semi final against Immaculata beating them 13-3. This placed the Hornets against the host team Merritt in the final. Both teams would go back and forth with the game coming down to the final point. Unfortunately, the Hornets would be defeated 12-11. This set up a challenge match against Summerland where the Hornets couldn’t match a rested Rockets squad losing 13-5 and finishing in 3rd place. The Jr. squad started their day with a semi-final match up against Seaton, a team they have yet to beat this season. Being down by 3 points, the Hornets dug deep and won the game on the final point 13-12. This set up a final against South Kamloops, another strong team the Hornets have not beaten this season. Again, the game seemed out of reach, but the team would dig deep and go on a big run to finish the game with a final score of 15-13 and capturing the Okanagan Valley Championship. The Jr. squad will continue onto Provincials in two weeks. Congratulations on all of your success this season Hornets, your coaches are very proud of you! 

 

  1. Attention all Students, today is the last day to put in nominations for the SOSS Citizenship award.  Go to the office now to pick up a nomination form. 

 

  1. Meeting in the gathering space on Tuesday May 13th for OIB students from 10:00 – 10:45 and then Indigenous Graduation Meeting from 10:45- 11:15. All Indigenous grad’s will be required to attend this meeting. 

 

  1. Indigenous garden meeting Monday at 10:30 to discuss an upcoming field trip. 

 

  1. Attention all Student Athletes – The Athletics Awards Banquet has been scheduled for Monday June 9. Tickets will be available in the library starting on Monday, you must have a ticket to attend the banquet. 

 

  1. Today at lunch the Senior Girls Soccer Team is hosting a bake sale at the front of the school.  Come out to support them as they are fundraising to go to Valleys in Kamloops next week.  Cash only see you at lunch.
