SOUTHERN OKANAGAN SECONDARY SCHOOL  

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 14, 2024 

 

1. Grade 11s and 12s – We are looking for Grade 11 and 12 students who enjoy math and want to make a difference by helping others. If you’re strong in math and interested in volunteering as a tutor, this is a great opportunity to support fellow students and earn volunteer hours at the same time. 

 

1. Any students interested in an exchange to Germany, see the posters for the BC – Germany Exchange Program.  Spend 10 weeks in Germany in the spring, 2026, and also host a student in your home. Check the QR code on the posters around the school to attend the Zoom information meeting or see Ms. Scott. 

 

1. All skateboard club members on the Airhouse trip today should meet in the front foyer at lunch. We leave at 11:30. 

 

1. Any junior girls who would like to try out for basketball, please come to the meeting today at lunch in room 109b (LC room). We will change the start time to 11:30 so please get your lunch and volleyball players get your team photo done first. See Mrs. Harrington if you can’t make this meeting. 

 

1. Volleyball Referees – OES and TEN need 2 referees each for volleyball games next Thursday, November 21st from 3-4 pm. If you have refereed and are interested in volunteering. Please see Mr. Pod today. 

 

1.  Hey SOSS!  The Winter Dance is on November 28th!  This year, Link Crew is bringing you a Masquerade Ball. Your ticket will include a masquerade mask and “champagne cocktail.”  Tickets are $15 and are available at lunch outside of the Zen Den.   

 

1. Any students interested in going to China there will be a meeting today at lunch in room 103. 

 

1. All members of the Jr Boys Volleyball team are asked to wash, fold and hand in their uniforms to Mr Pod by tomorrow. 

 

1. Jr Boys Basketball – All boys in Gr 9 and 10, who are interested in playing Jr Boys Basketball, are invited to the first try-out session today (Thursday) from 6-7:30pm. 

 

1. Congratulations to the newly appointed cast and crew of Footloose, the Musical.  Our first rehearsal will be Monday, November 18 at 3:00 pm in the Drama Room. As always, attendance is mandatory.  

 

1. You may have noticed that the food cart was not out this morning. This is because some students unfortunately have been wasting food. It is not appropriate to throw food around and make a mess. This is also heavily impacting the custodians as it adds extra work into their already very full schedules. Therefore, the cart will not be out today or tomorrow. We will try again next week, but if there isn’t an improvement, we will not have the cart out for the rest of that week. We expect you to do better.  

 

1. There is no Prom Committee meeting today at lunch. It has been rescheduled for Thursday next week. 

 

1. Grads – don't forget about the plant and meat fundraisers. For every item sold, $5 is taken off your Grad fees. Paper copies of the order forms are in the office, and the links to order online are posted on Teams and the school website. Deadline for orders is Wednesday, November 27.
