- On Friday, the Sr. Ultimate team travelled to Surrey to compete in the BC High School Ultimate Championship. This is one of the largest tournaments in BC that hosts 32 schools from across the province. The Hornets were seeded 5th place in their bracket to start the day on Saturday. Their first match was against R.A. McMath, a large school in Richmond. The Hornets came out buzzing using awesome speed and precision throughout the line up and knocked off the 4th seeded team 8-5. This win put the Hornets into the top half of a strong draw and set a match up against last year's defending champion team, Burnaby Mountain Secondary. The Hornets were in tough, dealing with some key injuries after their first match but managed to score 4 points on the defending champions and took them right to the cap limit of 75 minutes losing by a score of 10-4. Their final matchup of the day was against another large Richmond school, AR MacNeil. The Hornets built up an early lead then exchanged points back and forth. The Hornets displayed a ton of grit and grinded out the win 10-8. This win set up Saturdays playof bracket to challenge for 9th place. On Saturday, the Hornets faced off against York/Saint Georges, a private school in Vancouver. Again, losing some key players to injury on Friday, the Hornets tried their best but lost by a final score of 11-5. Their final match of the season was against Vancouver Tech to challenge for 11th place. The Hornets came out flying, going up 4-0 early in the game, but couldn’t hold onto their momentum. The Hornets would try their best but would eventually lose 10-5. Overall, the Hornets finished 12 out of 32 teams across the province, a monumental success for our team. We are very proud of the strong season you had and look forward to your continued success moving forward next year! Way to go Hornets!
