SOUTHERN OKANAGAN SECONDARY SCHOOL

  1. Snack Shack is open every day! Come on down for a snack between A & B block!  

 

  1. Grads, do you know how to apply for university or college? There will be tutorials on Wednesday November 9 and Tuesday November 15th to show you the tools needed to apply. Sign-up sheets are on the counselling window by the breakfast cart.  

 

  1. SAGA is meeting in Ms. Shione’s room, room 205, at lunch today!

 

  1. In their last matches of the season, the Junior Girls Yellow Volleyball team showed some grit, determination and a lot of great play. With some excellent work at the net from Payton and Brooklyn, some fantastic digging from Hailey and Charlie and consistent serving from Maya, Deirdre and Kayla the Yellow Hornets finished the season with a straight sets win over UNISUS. Fantastic dedication and commitment this season, especially to Olivia who showed up to practices and games despite her injury. Go HORNETS 
     
  1. We will have a “Beyond the Blues” event at lunchtime on Wednesday November 9th in the atrium! There will be games, trivia, prizes, and information on depression, anxiety and risky drinking! There will be opportunities for self-screeners and resources available in our community.  

 

  1. Today in the Caf it is Thyme Parmesan Gnocchi and Cesar Salad and Monday will be Chicken Cesar Wraps and Chicken Noodles Soup. 

 

  1. Poppies are available in the office by donation! 

 

  1. Any French students who have already paid their Maple Man workshop fees can come by the Accounting office to pick up their $5 cafeteria coupon.  

 

  1. Good luck to the Sr. Girls volleyball team as they travel today for a tournament. Please leave your B block class at 10:45 and meet outside the phys ed office. 

 

  1. Yoga Club starts on Monday, November 5th. The club is for anyone who feels stressed or overwhelmed and is wanting a safe space to practice mindful movements and breathing techniques. You don’t have to be flexible to join! See Mrs. Stopa if you are interested or have questions. We will meet in Room 204 from 3-4pm.  

 

  1. We will have an extra D&D club after school on Monday, Nov. 6. Meet in room 907. If you want to play but haven’t been able to attend Tuesdays, now is your chance. It won’t be every Monday so you can still do Yoga club!  

 

  1. Remembrance Day is on November 11th and there is going to be a poster, poem or essay contest again this year, sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion. You may enter a submission in any of the categories mentioned. Cash prizes will be awarded to local and regional winners, and you could even move on to the national level and have a chance to go to Ottawa. The deadline for all contest entries is November 15th. See any of the Social Studies teachers or Ms. Laver for more information and an entry form.
