SOUTHERN OKANAGAN SECONDARY SCHOOL 

                    Thursday September 8, 2022. 

1. There are some events coming up at Oliver Parks and Rec in September.  The First is a Glow Run on September 17th from 7:00-9:00PM at the Oliver Community Park, this is 3 laps around the park open to runners, walkers, or joggers of all ages. Registration includes a couple of glow accessories. We recommend wearing fabulous bright athletic wear, and glow/light up accessories.  The second event is on September 30th National Truth and Reconciliation day, this is a recreational youth 4V4 Hockey Tournament open to boys and girls ages 7-14. Games run from 8:00-5:30. $25.00 registration includes an Indian Taco for lunch, and an opening ceremony with members of the OIB. 

1. Skateboard club is back! Please pick up a permission form from Mr. McKinnon outside Room 206. All skaters must meet with Mr. McKinnon before our first trip Tuesday, September 13th. Bring your skateboard or scooter and a helmet. Beginners welcome.  

1. The Student Voice Club welcomes new members to join their efforts to give back to the school community. The club meets every Tuesday at lunch in room 207. The first Student Voice Club meeting will be next Tuesday – bring a lunch and your ideas to build community spirit in our school.  

1. Attention grade 10-12 students who are interested in becoming a Healthcare Volunteer! Applications and information are available from Mrs. Koffler in the office. The deadline to apply is September 30th. 

1. Any Gr. 11 and 12 girls wanting to play Sr. Girls volleyball this year, there will be a practice today from 4:30-6. See Mr. Burns if you cannot make it. 

1. Grade 8 Boys and Girls Volleyball – All boys and girls who are interested in playing Gr 8 Volleyball are invited to the first practice of the season today from 3-4:30 pm in the main gym. Bring a friend and come on out! 

1. Grade 8 Boys Volleyball – All boys interested in playing Gr 8 Boys volleyball are asked to attend a short but important meeting, in the main gym, at the beginning at lunch. 

1. Jr Boys Volleyball – All boys in Gr 9 and 10 who are interested in playing Jr Boys volleyball this year are  

asked to attend an important meeting at the beginning of lunch today in the main gym. Please be there on time. 

1. Jr Girls Volleyball Players – All girls in Gr 9 and 10 who are interested in playing Jr Girls Volleyball this year are invited to the first practice of the season today from 6-7:30 pm. If you have any questions, please see Mr Podmorow. 

1. Field hockey season starts today for both Junior and Senior teams! See you on the top field at 3pm. 

1. Musical Theatre class will begin next Wednesday at lunch in the Drama room.  Please bring your lunch.  Attendance is mandatory.  Check the bulletin board outside the drama room for information. 

1. Attention SOSS...there will be a welcome back BBQ open to all students and their families on Wednesday, September 14 from 5-7 in the Atrium.  There will be Hot Dogs and entertainment.  Hope to see you all there. 

1. Any students interested in helping out with technical duties in the theater for the upcoming Youth Ambassadors evening, please see Mr. Kitt in the counselling center. 

1. Reminder to all students that school photos are tomorrow. Bring your best smiles!
