SOUTHERN OKANAGAN SECONDARY SCHOOL 

           Tuesday February 1, 2022. 

 

  1. Skiers and Snowboarders! Please go to the PE office or Mr. Wurflinger’s room for your forms. This trip is open to the entire school. Absolute latest day to have forms in is Feb 3rd by lunchtime. Pick a mountain, APEX or Baldy and strap on the sticks cuz’ its ski time! Any questions, please see Mr. Russo. 

 

  1. Winter Active Living Day – February 14th is Winter Active Living Day. In addition to the two ski trips participants may take part in the Apex Winter Extravaganza, Bowling, Mini golf, EPIC Winter Adventure, or Skating. All students who are planning to take part in Winter Active Living Day, and are not involved in a ski or snowboard trip, are asked to pick up a permission slip at the library today. The absolute deadline for all permission slips to be turned in and participation fees to be paid to Ms. Matthews is Friday February 4th 

 

  1. The student voice club meets today at lunch in room 207. New members are always welcome to join the club. They will be planning projects for second semester - starting with recognizing that February is Black History Month. Also, today is Chinese New Year!  We are going into the Year of the Tiger. Happy New Year! 

 

  1. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS Please return all textbooks and English novels from last semester to the Library as soon as possible. Not only do we need them for this semester's classes but if you have anything outstanding on your account from last semester, you will not be able to sign out any resources for this semester. 

 

  1. A reminder that the Caf is closed today and Wed for training. The first day of service will be Thursday, which is Pizza Day and Friday will be Mac & Cheese and Tomato Basil Soup.  Starting next week the Caf will be open on Day 1’s for full service and Day 2’s will have cold service, with Cobb Salad and Pizza Pretzels or Biscuits. Make sure to check the menu online or posted around the school.  

  

  1. Today is February 1st. That means that you have 10 days to get your course requests for next year figured out. Plan everything out in MyBlueprint, enter the requests into the Student Portal and then hand in your signed paper copy to Mrs. G in the library.  

 

  1. Pink Shirt Day is coming up.  T-shirts are available to order online, the link is on the school website.  Please put the word “Student” for your Division. 

 

  1. Calling all Grads of 2022! The time has come to sign up for your Personal Pitches. The sign-up sheets are in the office. Please DO NOT sign up during class time. You can sign up for the morning, lunch or after school and you can sign up during the day if you have a study block. All grads should be signed up by the end of next week and all Personal Pitches must be presented by Spring Break. Due to Covid restrictions you no longer need to bring in your important person for your pitch, but they are welcome to join your presentation electronically. See Mr. Willms, Mr. Burns, or Ms. Smith with any questions 

 

  1. Any students interested in a career with the RCMP?  The RCMP Youth Academy is a week-long program that gives students an experience into various aspects of the RCMP.  See Mr. Kitt for details and an application. 

 

  1. Any grade 8 students interesting in attending a one hour session called Establishing Safe, Caring, and Respectful Digital Communities this Thursday starting at 11:00 and over the lunch hour, please sign up in the office. The session is limited to the first 30 students who sign up and pizza will be provided. Sign up by Wednesday.  

 

  1. All Semester 1 art students please check the display cases and if you have artwork to pick up from the art room please do so before the end of the week.  

 

  1. Any students who are interested in learning how to bead please come and sign up in the gathering room this week. Bring ideas for projects you would like to do! The first beading session will be held on February 8th.
