SOUTHERN OKANAGAN SECONDARY SCHOOL 

         Tuesday,  December  8, 2020 

     

  1. Reminder to everyone that as a member of our school community it is an expectation that you wear your masks in the halls and all shared spaces at all times. If ANY adult directs you to put on your mask, be out of the hallways at lunch, etc., it is our expectation that you follow that directive. Wearing masks and following the Covid protocols helps to keep all of us, including you and your loved ones, safe.  

 

  1. Starting today, the girl’s changeroom will be closed from 11:50-12:00 and 2:50 – 3:00 for cleaning. Please be cleared out of the changeroom at that time and do not re-enter until the cones have been removed and the space has been opened up.  

 

  1. There will be homework club after school in the gathering room until 4 pm. All are welcome
  2.  
  1. We are still having our Grade wide Food drive.  So far only Grades 8, 9 and 10 have brought in food keep it up!  We still have not received any food from Grades 11 and 12.  Bring your non-perishable food items to the Library to add to your grades food tree.  The tallest tree will win great prizes!! 

 

  1. Link Crew is selling Christmas Cards all week at lunch for 2$.  The cards are specially made by our Grade 8s and all proceeds go to OSNS, an organization that helps children with special needs in the Okanagan.  Come show your holiday spirit and support this great cause. 

 

  1. The art and shop teachers have combined forces with the math and science teachers to offer you S.T.E.A.M club! S.T.E.A.M stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math. Our first project will be to make catapults that shoot paint. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in please see Mrs. McVicar, Mr. Hofman or Mr. Baptiste to sign up, space is limited to 20 students so sign up soon to avoid disappointment 

 

  1. The Student Voice Club has compiled the results from the school survey, and a few of the most popular items of SOSS Merch were selected to sell this year. The order forms will be available soon. Stay tuned to order your SOSS merch for 2020! 

 

  1. All the art work from term 1 is now out of the display cases please come and collect from the art room before Friday if you want your projects back 

 

  1. Reminder for any grade 10 who would like to write their graduation required numeracy or literacy assessments this January to please sign up with Mrs. Koffler in the office. Please see Ms. Smith with any questions.  

 

  1. Grad Committee Meeting TODAY in room 104. See you at 11:15 at lunch in room 104. 

 

  1. Grade 8 Volleyball at 3 today. 

 

  1. Gr. 9 Basketball tomorrow from 4:30 – 6:00 in the main gym.   

 

  1. Tomorrow in the Caf it is waffles, fruit and sausages and Fridays lunch will be Baked Spaghetti with Biscuits and Red PepPer Corn Chowder. 

 

  1. Today is our Grade 8 Indigenous lunch. In the Gathering room! If you are Indigenous and in Grade 8 PLEASE join us for Bannock tacos and PRIZES!!! Hope to see you there!!! 

 

  1. Reminder to Grade 9 Students that if you have your Immunization Consent forms please bring them to the office right away. 

 

  1. Congratulations to Tyler Antunes who was the first one to answer yesterdays question correctly.  Now for todays Advent Calendar challenge:  You must make the most amazing holiday card and bring it to the library.  The student wo makes the best card will win the advent calendar prize for today.  All cards must be in by the end of lunch today to qualify.
