- Way. Today is orange shirt day, orange shirt day is a day set aside to honor and reflect upon the experiences of 150,000 Indigenous Children and over 7 generations of families who experienced the Intergenerational trauma caused by residential schools. Today school is a safe place for all of us to make social connections, learn life skills, to have opportunities and this is why September has been an exciting month for all of us. However, For Indigenous survivors and communities September brings back the devastating emotions and memories of residential schools. Children were forced into Residential schools where they were stripped of their dignity, culture and language. This is why we must remember the long lasting effects of residential schools on Indigenous culture and spirits. Phillys Webstad (a residential school survivor) was taken to Residential School at age 6 with her brand new orange shirt. Her shirt was taken from her and she never saw that shirt again. Wearing an orange shirt symbolizes our freedoms we get to have in schools today. Let's all take today to remember this chapter in OUR history.
- A huge thank you to all the students and staff who participated in the annual Terry Fox run yesterday. Together we raised over $1100 for cancer research. If you would still like to donate, you can do so in the office until Friday.
